JILA Lecture

Prof. Goswami delivered a lecture at JILA, University of Colorado Boulder, hosted by Prof. Henry Kapteyn, entitled “Ultrafast Science with Shaped Light: Seeing and Steering Matter and Interactions in Real Time”. The talk covered femtosecond optical tweezers, femtosecond thermal lens spectroscopy, and a time-domain theory of femtosecond trapping.

2025

Visiting Professorship and Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship

Prof. Goswami has joined the Center for Bits and Atoms at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a Visiting Professor, hosted by Prof. Neil Gershenfeld. The visit is supported by a Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowship and focuses on femtosecond laser machining toward nanofabrication.

JILA Visiting Fellowship

Prof. Goswami has been selected for the JILA Visiting Fellowship program at the University of Colorado Boulder, hosted by Prof. Henry Kapteyn (IIT Kanpur Chemistry news).

2024

UNOOS 2024 at IISER Mohali

The Ultrafast Nonlinear Optics and Optical Spectroscopy (UNOOS) meeting at IISER Mohali, 10 to 12 December 2024, celebrated Prof. Goswami’s academic journey on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday. It was convened by his former student Dr. Arijit K. De and had 55 lectures. Papers by participants appear in a ChemPhysChem special collection, introduced by Dr. De’s editorial (doi:10.1002/cphc.70514, 2026). Rohit Goswami presented a preliminary account of his ChemPhysChem cover feature article, “Adaptive Pruning for Increased Robustness and Reduced Computational Overhead in Gaussian Process Accelerated Saddle Point Searches” (with Hannes Jónsson, 2026), at the meeting and dedicated the article to Prof. Goswami on this occasion.

Editorship of ACS Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters

Prof. Goswami has been invited to join the Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) of The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters for a term of January 2024 to December 2026.

Purdue Seminar

Prof. Goswami gave a seminar at Purdue University in the Birck Nanotechnology Center, West Lafayette, during the lab’s 2023 visit to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Symposium Lecture

Prof. Goswami delivered an invited talk entitled “Observing and Unraveling Nonlinearities and Dynamics at Nanoscales: Chemistry with Femtosecond Lasers” at the IIT Kanpur-La Trobe University online chemistry symposium representing the IIT Kanpur Department of Chemistry.

Visiting Professorship

Prof. Goswami and Sonaly Goswami will be hosted by the Gruebele group under Prof. Martin Gruebele at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for an academic visit of two months.

Best Poster Award

The lab celebrates Deepak Kumar who received the best poster presentation award at the conference PHOTONICS 2023 at IISc Bangalore.

Prof. Goswami delivered an invited lecture at the Biological Physics (iPoLS) seminar at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign entitled “Harnessing ‘shaped’ light for understanding biological applications at the molecular length scale”.

Prof. Goswami delivered an invited seminar at the Harish-Chandra Research Institute on “Quantum Manipulation with Laser Precision: Exploring the Frontiers of Coherent Control”.

Invited Chem/Biochem Seminar

Prof. Goswami was invited to, and delivered an in-person talk for the Chem/Biochem seminar at the University of Iceland where his talk was entitled: “Steering Molecular Destiny: Exploring the Frontiers of Coherent Control in Chemistry”.

Prof. Goswami and the lab wish the best to the newly minted Dr. Soumendra Nath Bandyopadhyay, who successfully defended his thesis on the Application of Femtosecond Optical Tweezers towards the understanding of complex systems. Dr. Bandyopadhyay has gone on to an assistant professorship.

First PeerJ Physical Chemistry Publication

The group published the first PeerJ Physical Chemistry paper of its inaugural volume entitled Effect of Femtosecond Laser Pulse Repetition Rate on Nonlinear Optical Properties of Organic Liquids
