Thesis Abstract
Intercepting a travelling grating in space: towards Free-space optical communication
Optical Free-space communication will be a fundamental building block for free
space data networks in future. Free-space optical communication (FSO) is called
as line of sight technology which uses invisible or visible beam of light and
photo detectors to provide optical bandwidth connections between two points
without the fiber. There are number of methods that can be used to modulate
laser light such as mechanical, electro-optic, magnetic and acousto-optic. A
number of conventional FSO systems and modulating retro-reflector based FSO
systems have been developed to achieve high bit-rate, low power consumption and
compactness of transmitter. However, most of the transmitting devices have
several limitations which are discussed as well.
